![]() ![]() Meet Sanket Gupte, a Computer Science Ph.D. #ai #healthcare #startup #research #entrepreneurship and the team at Clear for bringing me onboard. In the long term, I would like to focus my efforts on creating solutions to address challenging problems in healthcare and building a better future. While my current goal is to focus on my research, I like to imagine that there is a (not-so-distant) future in which I get to do this for real.Īs a researcher, I get a front row seat to witness the creation of innovative new tech. My group worked closely with an awesome startup and we brained stormed growth strategies.ĭuring this experience, I realized that perhaps one day I might apply similar approaches to scale my own company. Last year I decided to explore outside my comfort zone of AI and took a class on Dynamic Entrepreneurial Strategy. #engineering #ms #phd #science #bits #bitspilani #researchĮxcited to be a part of this incredible cohort! Building a company from scratch is uncharted territory for me, and I'm eager to learn from Clear's team and the other Deeptech Fellows. My time at BITS was quite enriching and I'm glad that I'm able to connect with the next generation of BITSians and assist them on their higher education journey. In short, I had the freedom to explore my interests which naturally gravitated towards research. As someone who dislikes coursework, this flexibility was a really beneficial to me and allowed me to devote more time to my research. Only 1-2% of students graduate early, but it's a great way to save money, focus on research, or start a job early. So I had a free semester during which I continued my thesis project and also interned at TCS Innovation Labs where I worked on Deep Learning for Genomics, which further strengthened my research profile and yielded a good LOR. Early graduation - I completed all my coursework a semester early and graduated in 3.5 years. Many of my fellow BITSians used this opportunity to spend a semester (or two) abroad in research labs which gave them international exposure and resulted in strong letters of recommendation.ģ. This work was later published and helped to build up my profile as an aspiring researcher. I opted to continue my Comp Bio research in my final year as part of my thesis. Thesis - At BITS, students get to pursue either a semester long internship in industry, or a thesis. These experiences honed my research skills and cemented my decision to apply for a PhD.Ģ. Since I wanted to do more work in these exciting fields, I focused on developing a strong background which helped me pursue research in these areas.Įarly on, I started working on formal projects in Machine Learning applied to Computational Biology, Computer Vision, and High Performance Computing. In my first year, I explored IoT, Robotics, Image Processing, Computer Vision, and Machine Learning. ![]() I attended about 5% of classes and had plenty of free time to explore topics which piqued my interest. No attendance policy - I was free to decide how to utilize my time from day 0 at BITS. Since we will be celebrating BITSians Day later this week, I thought I'd reflect on some of the key factors at BITS which helped me in this journey.ġ. BITS Pilani played a vital role in preparing me for my PhD. ![]()
